It's not exactly like Kobe vs. Shaq dramatic and is not as widely publicized as TO versus (Garcia, McNabb, Romo) but nevertheless we have another teammate feud on our hands and it comes from a very unlikely place...Major League Soccer. A few years ago there was a blockbuster deal that landed soccer sensation and cultural icon David Beckham in Los Angeles a deal that may have run its course. Even if it hasn't, there are some people in LA that wish it has.
Beckham recently has come under attack from LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan. Donovan complained in his new book "The Beckham Experiment" of the lack of commitment that Beckham has for the Galaxy. This may be the reason that the Galaxy dwell in the seller of the Western Division. Donovan's comments come at a great time as Beckham returns to the team after a long stint in Europe. We wonder if it will affect team chemistry.
A few of his comments were:
"Does the fact that he earns that much more money come into it? Yeah. If someone's paying you more than anybody in the league, more than double anybody in the league, the least we expect is that you show up to every game, whether you are suspended or not. Show up and train hard, show up and play hard."
"My sense is that David's clearly frustrated, that he's unhappy and, honestly, that he thinks it's a joke," he said. "I also kind of feel (he has taken the team) for granted. I don't see dedication or commitment to this team, and that's troubling."
Let's just say Donovan seems to be frustrated, "Let's say he does stay here for three more years," Donovan said. "I'm not going to spend the next three years of my life doing it this way. This is f****** miserable. I don't want to have soccer be this way."
The book is to be published on the 14th of July, only two days before the two line up along side each other against the New York Red Bulls. Donovan only requests that Beckham shows up and does his job, after all he is getting paid a lot of money. But what does he expect not many take the MLS seriously, i guess he figured at least its players did.
